The major economic activity in Fombgo is farming. The population of Fomgbo village is predominantly from the Loko ethnic group. Minority ethnic groups in Fomgbo village include the Limba and Temne.
Serving 900 people, Fomgbo village water source has always had plenty of water, but it has never been save for drinking. As an unprotected source, the water is open to various kinds of contamination, such as animal feces and toxins from farm chemicals and household waste.
The solution:
Fomgbo Village has an estimated population of 900 people. W4W is establishing a total of 4 wells across the various sections of Fomgbo Village. One of these sections, Sekul Section, is home to 220 people.
For 550$ Various Donors have donated a hand drilled borehole and a closed well with a SL handpump made from locally available materials by W4W’s Sierra Leonean partner ESSL, whom has drilled more than 400 wells of the type with success. The population of Sekul Section now have a clean water well available for public use. The project was completed in December 2020.
